Gail Borden to host U-46 STEM Expo kickoff

Elgin Area School District U-46 students are invited to bring their families to Gail Borden Public Library to explore cutting-edge technologies, experiment with next-generation science, and watch live chemistry and physics demonstrations. The library will host two kickoff events: from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin, and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin.

Students will be able to watch robotics demos, conduct hands-on science investigations, learn about architecture with Lego bricks, do STEM activities focused on electricity, energy and physics, learn about coding, DNA extraction and more. Representatives from the Argonne National Laboratory, NIU Office of STEM Outreach, Roosevelt University Office of Biological, Physical and Chemical Science, Illinois Science Olympiad and more will give demos and provide hands-on activities.

The events are designed to encourage students to explore all areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), exchange innovative ideas with friends and pick up their STEM Expo information packet for the STEM Expo that will take place Feb. 25 at South Elgin High School.
