Harper hosts men's soccer district title matchup
A week after defeating Triton 2-1 to capture a second straight NJCAA Region IV men's soccer tournament championship, Harper will be back in action Saturday.
The Hawks (15-2-1) will take on Richland College (Texas) in the district championship game at noon Saturday. The game will be hosted by Harper.
Richland advanced by topping Anoka-Ramsey Community College (Minn.) 2-0 in a semifinal on Friday in Palatine.
At stake for both teams is a trip to the NJCAA tournament in Herkimer, N.Y.
The Hawks climbed a spot in this week's NJCAA Division III poll. They are ranked No. 9, their highest ranking of the season. Rickey Choi (Hoffman Estates) has collected a goal in every postseason game for Harper.
Richland is a familiar foe for the Hawks, having defeated them 8-1 in last year's district title game. The Golden Ducks have been ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA for the last seven weeks.
• The Harper women's volleyball team puts its No. 1 national ranking on the line Saturday as the Hawks travel to Madison, Wis., for the Region IV tournament.
The Hawks (38-1) will first play rival College of DuPage at 10 a.m. in a semifinal. A victory would put Harper up against either Madison Area Technical College or Rock Valley for the title. Rock Valley is the only team to have beaten Harper this year.
