Teen held on Buffalo Grove armed robbery charges

A teenager was charged with robbing a Buffalo Grove man at gunpoint and ordered held on $150,000 bail Friday.

Brian Walter, 19, was charged with armed robbery, a class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Walter and a juvenile drove to a home in the 700 block of Grove Drive Thursday intending to steal drugs, cash and property.

According to Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom, Walter was holding "what is reported to be a handgun" when he approached the man and demanded money. The man said he had none, at which point Walter and the juvenile noticed the man's cellphone, Grissom said.

Walter demanded the cellphone, which the man refused to surrender, and then held the gun to the man's chest and said "Do you want to get shot over this?" Grissom said.

The man handed over his phone and ran away as Walter instructed, Grissom said.

Walter, who has no criminal background, returns to court on Nov. 17.
