Local Boy Scout Creates Reading Garden at Library

Evan Schmitt, a local boy scout and high school student, volunteered his time this summer to create a reading garden at the Glen Ellyn Public Library as his Eagle Scout project.

Schmitt planned and developed the project and gathered friends and family to help make his idea a reality. All told, they donated some 130 hours to complete his project. In addition to creating the reading garden, they weeded and mulched the butterfly garden.

The new reading garden is located in the center of the library's butterfly garden, along the Prairie Path, and includes a center flower arrangement with garden seating at all four corners.

"On behalf of the Library Board of Trustees and library staff, I would like to thank Evan for his hard work and devotion to this project," said Dawn Bussey, Director of the Glen Ellyn Public Library. "The reading garden is a lovely new addition to the butterfly garden and we are confident it will provide many hours of enjoyment for local area residents."
