Public invited to share thoughts on Buffalo Grove Police Department

Buffalo Grove residents will have multiple opportunities to offer comments on the village's police force during an upcoming review for accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

CALEA assessors will be in the village beginning Sunday, Dec. 11 to examine all aspects of the department's policies, procedures, management, field operations and support services.

"National accreditation is a voluntary process in which we allow our police department to be scrutinized by the assessment team and held to the highest law enforcement standards," Chief Steve Casstevens said in a news release. "This process will assist us in ensuring that we are in position to provide the utmost level of service to our community."

This will be the eighth reaccreditation for the department.

Employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, in the village hall council chambers 50 Raupp Blvd., Buffalo Grove. Residents can also comment by phone by calling (847) 777-6227 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, or writing the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.
