COD Women's Soccer Win Regional Championship, Compete for District Title Oct. 29

The College of DuPage Lady Chaparrals soccer team defeated Rock Valley Community College 1-0 in double overtime on Oct. 25, clinching the Region IV Championship and earning a shot at the District title.

The team hosts the district playoff against the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Golden Rams (Minnesota) at noon Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. The winner earns a shot at the Division III national title.

Led by head Coach William Fajkus, the team is 17-5-3 this season, with 64 goals and averaging 16.7 shots per game. The team had 12 shutouts and 247 shots on goal.

The 2016 season marks the team's fifth consecutive Region IV title. The Lady Chaparral kickers' last trip to the national tournament and last national title came in 2011.

College of DuPage is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, National Junior College Athletic Association Region IV and North Central Community College Conference (N4C). The College's Athletics program offers eight men's and seven women's sports teams each year, including track and field, cross country, football, volleyball, golf, basketball, tennis, baseball, softball and soccer. All home games are played on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., and are free and open to the public.
