Pro John Isner to break ground for Southaven tennis complex
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Southaven is bringing in one of the world's top-ranked tennis pros to help break ground for a complex at the city's Snowden Grove Park.
The Commercial Appeal reports (http://memne.ws/2dWqy3r) John Isner, currently ranked 27th in the world by the ATP World Tour, will join city officials and representatives from USTA-Mississippi and the DeSoto County Tennis Association for the Nov. 16 groundbreaking.
Mayor Darren Musselwhite, a former athlete himself, said he was very excited over Isner's involvement.
Musselwhite termed the tennis complex the next major step in Southaven's park and recreational expansion and enhancement program.
Earlier this month, aldermen approved a $1.6 million bid for eight courts. The complex will include a pavilion, restrooms, covered seating and parking.
