Lombard Historical Society hosting Saucy Tales trivia

Trivia over drinks isn't anything new, but quizzing bar-goers on local history is a fun twist the Lombard Historical Society is doing with its Saucy Tales! Trivia Bar Crawl on Nov. 11.

"It's a fun way to talk about history that intrigues people a little more," said Keith Ulrich, Lombard Historical Society director of programming. "It gets people into a social setting and it's a great fundraiser for us."

The cost is $25 for nonmembers and $20 for members. Participants will split into three groups and take turns visiting Punky's Pub, Marquette Kitchen & Tap and The Vino Cellar from 7 to 10 p.m. At each location, food will be served and prizes will be awarded to winning teams.

Local businesses that have already donated prizes for the event include WhirlyBall, Art Life Gallery & Studio, Sweet Street Candies and Goodies, Famous Liquors, Sky Center Martial Arts and Peak Fitness.

Ulrich said the trivia questions will focus on scandals, shenanigans, criminals and basic human stupidity in local and general history, spanning from the mid-1800s through present day.

"You don't have to be a Lombard historian to really get the answers," he said. "They'll be contextualized."

Money raised at the event will go toward programming and collections management. Ulrich said the historical society has plans to start introducing more daytime programs for seniors and retirees and that donations also go a long way in making sure community artifacts are properly preserved.
