Respect the fallen - and their flag

This is a follow up response to the letter by Rich Niemaszyk in the Oct. 14 "Your views" section regarding "Colin Kaepernick and others."

I am a Vietnam veteran and agree with Rich's comments.

I would like to add:

I did not lose friends in Vietnam so that others could disrespect the flag or National Anthem. This is a disservice to all who served and died, be they white, black, including the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII, or any other individual. I understand the 1st Amendment to free speech; but maybe those who feel they want to protest, burn a flag or not respect the National Anthem or Pledge Of Allegiance, go to the airport when a fallen soldier or his remains is brought home, or attend the individual's funeral. Rather, they should offer condolences to the family of the fallen and respect them and their flag.
