Police arrest 3 after death of Terre Haute radio personality

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Three people were in custody Tuesday in connection with the beating death of a Terre Haute radio personality.

A 25-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man from Terre Haute were arrested and a 28-year-old Rockville man also was being held following the death of Matt Luecking, who worked for WFNB-FM. A hearing for all three is scheduled Friday in Vigo Superior Court, and police said more arrests are possible.

An autopsy Tuesday determined Luecking died of blunt force trauma, the (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reported. Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse said investigators believe Luecking was beaten with a baseball bat while in bed, the newspaper reported.

"We know Matt was a big loss for this community, and we'll do everything we can to get justice," Plasse said.

When Luecking did not show up for work Monday morning at Terre Haute Savings Bank, his employer requested a well-being check, Plasse said.

Officers found Luecking's body Monday at an apartment. His vehicle was missing and authorities found two men trying to use Luecking's bank card at a store in Vermillion County.

Two of the people arrested are charged preliminarily with murder, robbery and burglary, while the third faces a charge of assisting a criminal, the Tribune-Star reported.
