American English to headline benefit concert in Roselle

As if being known as "The Beatles incarnate" isn't cool enough, American English is doing its part to help veterans.

The award-winning tribute band is donating its time to headline a benefit concert next week organized by Roselle American Legion Post 1084.

All the money raised during the event will be donated to organizations and programs that support veterans.

"We're just trying to raise as much money as we can," said Paul Goodwin, a past commander of the post. "We want to write checks."

Goodwin said the post has a list of groups it wants to support with its second annual Veterans Benefit Concert.

And for the second straight year, American English is volunteering to perform.

The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the auditorium at Lake Park High School's West Campus, 500 W. Bryn Mawr in Roselle. The doors open at 6 p.m.

Singer Joe Cantafio and his band, the 101st Rock Division, also have agreed to play for free as the opening act.

Cantafio will sing patriotic songs during his roughly 45-minute performance. American English, meanwhile, will do a set focused on The Beatles' early years.

"Everybody enjoys that particular era," Goodwin said.

Organizations and programs that will benefit include Gifts to the Yanks Who Gave; Operation Comfort Warriors; the Wheaton-based Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans; and TLS Veterans, a McHenry-based group that helps veterans find jobs, homes and health care.

Goodwin said the hope is to sell out the 800-seat auditorium.

"People will be able to support great charities and see a great concert," Goodwin said. "They can take a couple of hours on a Friday night and just really enjoy themselves."

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

To buy tickets in advance, visit American Legion Post 1084, 344 E. Maple Ave., Roselle, or call (630) 894-8524.
