McHenry County College to offer paralegal degree information sessions

McHenry County College will host free Paralegal Information Sessions for those interested in exploring a new career as a paralegal and putting their research, writing and organizational skills to good use in this rewarding occupation.

Several Paralegal Information Sessions are available, including from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25; 4 to 5 p.m. Nov 8; 12:30 to 1 p.m. Nov. 9; and 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 17, all in Room E217 at the college, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

The paralegal job market in McHenry County is projected to grow 20.44 percent through 2018; the average salary in Illinois for a paralegal is $53,640, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

At each information session, attendees will learn about MCC's new two-year paralegal AAS degree, meet paralegal faculty and explore paralegal career opportunities. Those who attend an information session will receive a coupon to take the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal for free. The regular cost is $40. This appraisal is required for entry into MCC's paralegal degree program.

Students who enroll in the paralegal course will receive their own laptop tablet to keep, which includes special applications, such as MS 360 and preloaded law software.
