Police to meet with U of Illinois students after shooting

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Police from Champaign, Urbana and the University of Illinois plan to meet with students to discuss safety following a shooting that killed one person and injured three others near a campus commercial district.

Illinois Student Senate President Ron Lewis tells The News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/2dDqtSg ) in Champaign that he organized the Oct. 27 safety forum to give students a chance to ask police questions about safety measures on campus.

The shooting happened at a party in the area known as Campustown. One man, 22-year-old George Korchev of Mundelein, was killed and three other people were wounded. None of them were at the party or involved in the fight police say led to the shooting.

One man has been charged in connection with the shooting and several others with the fight.
