Meth bust leads to 6 years in prison for West Dundee man

A West Dundee man has been sentenced to six years in prison after a 2014 bust in which authorities said he had methamphetamine, marijuana and a fake ID.

Fernando Carreon-Medina, 43, recently pleaded guilty to possession of crystal meth with intent to deliver in exchange for Kane County prosecutors dismissing the less severe felony charges of marijuana possession and having an altered ID, according to court records.

Authorities seized 474 grams of meth and 680 grams of marijuana after arresting Carreon-Medina outside his apartment on the 800 block of Village Quarter Road on April 24, 2014, records show.

The drugs were worth an estimated $78,260 in street value and Carreon-Medina had been using an alias, according to court records.

"Defendant has a 1998 felony conviction for unlawful possession of a controlled substance under the name of Fernando Torres. The defendant should be deported after serving his sentence," prosecutors wrote on Carreon-Medina's sentencing order.

Kane County Judge John Barsanti accepted the plea in early October for Carreon-Medina, who faced a sentence ranging from six to 30 years in prison.

Carreon-Medina gets credit for nearly 900 days spent at the Kane County jail where he was held on $2 million bail while the case was pending. He also was assessed $13,880 in fines and court costs, records show.
