Hoffman Estates teen pleads guilty to firearm possession

A Hoffman Estates teen pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, according to court records.

Michael MacDonald, 19, was sentenced to three years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea to the class 2 felony, court records show. He received credit for 209 days in custody.

Responding to a report of a fight at a restaurant on April 9, police noticed a car with several occupants driving away from the scene. After police pulled the car over, one of the passengers, later identified as MacDonald, fled. As he did, he threw something away, police said.

Police recovered the item, a loaded .380-caliber, semiautomatic handgun.

Two other occupants of the car were also charged.

Tyler Heyward, 21, of Hoffman Estates, pleaded guilty in July to misdemeanor criminal trespass to property and mob action. He was sentenced to 82 days in jail and $399 in fines. Amanda Lonsfoote, 26, of Elgin, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor mob action and was sentenced to one year conditional release, two days in jail and 52 hours community service as part of the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program.
