Endorsement: Thorsen, Reinert in McHenry Board District 2
The field of four candidates seeking two McHenry County Board seats representing District 2 offers voters an interesting mix of experience in government and business, though in many ways the candidates share similar approaches to dealing with challenges facing the county. The easiest choice among them is Republican Jeffrey Thorsen, a former Crystal Lake City Council member who was appointed to the county board in 2015. Thorsen has a strong background in local government and a firm grip on county issues. We also endorse fellow Republican John Reinert of Crystal Lake, a small-business owner whose experience in home construction and real estate could benefit a county that hopes to reverse its trend of population decline. Democrat Dominique Jones, a strong advocate for smart growth and protecting water resources, and Jim Roden also are on the ballot.
