Janus Theatre presents 'Tales from Poe II: Into the Dark'

Janus Theatre Company presents "Walkabout: Theater on Your Feet" this fall for its ninth season when it presents a Poe-inspired lineup.

This year's event is "Tales from Poe II: Into The Dark," featuring pieces from Edgar Allan Poe's short stories and poems. "Walkabout: Tale from Poe II - Into The Dark" will run in downtown Elgin on Friday to Sunday, Oct. 28-30 - just in time for Halloween.

This fall season will feature evening and matinee performances throughout the weekend. Tour guides will lead groups of people to downtown locations where they will see the plays performed.

The event is sponsored by the Janus Theatre Company, Rediscover Records, Elgin Public House, Side Studio Arts, Mama Lee's Popcorn, and Blue Box Café. For more information, go to www.janusplays.com.

WHAT'S NEW THIS SEASON?

Janus Theatre Company originally presented a Poe lineup back in 2012 in various spaces above and below ground throughout downtown Elgin. "This year, we will take the subterranean idea further, leading our audiences to some spaces that have never seen," said Walkabout creator and Janus Theatre Artistic Director Sean Hargadon.

"We'll also be presenting pieces this fall that are a mix of famous Poe stories and some more obscure material. People can expect the very popular 'The Tell Tale Heart' and 'The Cask of Amontillado,' but we also plan on adding some rarities that show a different side to Edgar Allan Poe," added Hargadon.

Elgin Public House will be Walkabout Headquarters, acting as the starting spot for all tours. Mama Lee's Popcorn will be the final destination of Walkabout this year, where they will provide complimentary samples of their delicious homemade popcorn. There will also be free limited edition "Walkabout: Take from Poe II" buttons available for people who attend the event. Free coffee/cocoa will be available as well.

The cast features Janus Theatre Company members Kelly Bolton and Ann Marie Nordby, along with Joe Cattoggio, Thomas Squires and Paula Smiech. "Walkabout" is produced and directed by Sean Hargadon and stage managed by Tara Schuman.
