Endorsement: Cross for Will County recorder

Karen Stukel, a Democrat, is running for her third term because she says there is more to be done. Stepping into the office, she oversaw - not without controversy - the upgrade of the recorder's office software. She emphasized its vendor offers backup and off-site access in the case of disaster. Too, she wants to establish a program so veterans get area business discounts.

Republican Kristin Cross brings private and public service experience. She is a real estate agent, dealing with bank-owned properties; she is a Troy Community Consolidated District 30-C school board member and the Troy Township clerk. She wants to assess the office's software and see if there isn't anything better by seeking bids; work with the auditor to detect possible fraud; digitize degenerating records; and cross-train staff.

While Stukel says she is not done yet, Cross brings enthusiasm and specifics for what she wants to accomplish. It is for this reason, the Daily Herald supports Kristin Cross for recorder of deeds.
