Muslim Association of Bolingbrook Hosts Mosque Open House to Help Promote Message of Peace and Understanding of Islam

Bolingbrook, IL, October 16, 2016: Muslim Association of Bolingbrook (MAB) hosted an 'Open Mosque Day' on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at their facility on 351 Veterans Pkwy, Bolingbrook, IL 60490. This was one of many Mosque Open House locations, which were organized throughout the Chicagoland area by the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC).

Mr. Anwaar Khan, President, MAB welcomed the guests by saying: "Assalaamu Alaikum to all of you," which means peace be upon you. "It's a prayer that is used as a greeting of peace, and I use this greeting with each of you today," he stated. He thanked everyone for taking the time to come and learn about the true meaning of Islam. He said, "These Open Mosque Days are not the only time you are welcome to come inside; our doors at both Mosques are always open and you are welcome at any time to come in and ask questions, or view the prayer services. Our beliefs are similar and we respect the differences, but those differences should not stop us from building friendships and bridges between our families and communities," Mr. Khan added.

The main speaker of the event was Dr. Sabeel Ahmed, the director of Gain Peace, which is an outreach program of the Islamic Circle of North America. Dr. Ahmed speaks domestically and internationally to educate the public about the teachings of Islam, Shariah law, Quran and Science and specializes in comparative religion.

Aamer Jaleel, the host of the event, told guests that one of the main purpose for the event was to be able to ask any kind of questions to clear misconceptions and doubts anyone may have. "We feel like our religion is negatively being portrayed out there in the mainstream media which affects us, our children, our families, and our community at large," added Jaleel.

Over 50 attendees were present who took a tour of the facility, observed the afternoon and sunset prayers, and heard informational presentations on Islamic History and Women in Islam by Mrs. Sameena Sultan, having an opportunity to ask any questions the guests had about Islam. Guests were given gift bags and there was a raffle to give away prizes at the end of the event.

Demonstration booths were setup for guests including henna art tattoos, calligraphy, hijab, Quranic Recitation, Women in Islam, and delicious ethnic treats.

MAB is a non-profit organization that provides religious services, programs for the youth and adults, charitable donations, and educational programs with an emphasis on promoting communal harmony through interfaith activities.
