Police treating Barrington Hills man's death as a homicide

The death of a Barrington Hills man found in a burning car in Chicago last month is being treated as a homicide by police. James D. Gerage, 43, co-owner of Elgin-based Omega Demolition Corp., was found Sept. 23 in the back seat of a burning car on the 600 block of West 21st Street near the Chicago River. Full story.

Update coming Thursday on Baby Hope probe

New information in the Baby Hope investigation will be revealed Thursday morning during a news conference in Wheaton, authorities said yesterday. The DuPage County sheriff's office says it will release new DNA-related information related to the possible identities of Baby Hope's parents at 10 a.m. at the DuPage County Courthouse. Full story.

Feds blame Elgin company for worker's death on I-90 bridge

Federal regulators rebuked an Elgin demolition company and fined it $152,000 for safety violations leading to a worker's death on a Jane Addams Tollway bridge in Des Plaines this spring. Vicente Santoyo of Berwyn, a father of four, was standing in a lift cutting bracing between two beams to be removed from the bridge at Touhy Avenue when one rolled off a concrete support April 5, falling on him. Some Metra riders will see train times on new screens

Metra will test digital message boards displaying train arrival and departure times at some of its downtown stations this fall. The technology will pop up at the LaSalle Street Station initially, then at Millennium Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center. Union Station, which is owned by Amtrak, was not included in the announcement. Metra is "starting at stations that are under our control," spokesman Michael Gillis said. Full story.

Police investigating cause of fatal Algonquin crash

Algonquin police said yesterday they are still piecing together the events leading up to a five-vehicle crash that killed one motorcyclist and injured three others last weekend. Three motorcycles were traveling north on the Route 31 western bypass at 5:39 p.m. Saturday when they hit a median just north of Route 62, entered the southbound lanes and collided with two oncoming vehicles, according to an Algonquin news release.
