Bears' Young keeps reeling in the sacks

Avid fisherman Willie Young has had plenty of opportunities lately to demonstrate his sack celebrations, which are mimes of various casting techniques.

After a personal-best 3 sacks in Week Five, Young had 2 more Sunday.

"I was going for distance on the second one," Young said of Sunday's latter celebration. "The first one, I was fly fishing. I had the family up in the stands, so I sent the hook right at them."

Young forced a Blake Bortles fumble on his second sack, and teammate Akiem Hicks recovered for the Bears at the Jaguars' 28-yard line, but they settled for a 32-yard field goal. Young was also penalized 15 yards for roughing Bortles when he reached across a blocker for the quarterback but grazed his helmet with his hand.

"Obviously that was a prime example of adversity," Young said. "At the end of the day, the flag is thrown and that was it. We talk about it all the time. I'm not going to dwell on what just happened, it's all about the next play."

Playing it safe:

Quarterback Brian Hoyer's propensity for taking the safe, efficient, short throws over the longer, riskier tosses continue to be a hot topic of debate.

Hoyer threw for 302 yards but no touchdowns in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Jaguars, and he needed 50 dropbacks to do so.

"Our margin for error is not great," coach John Fox said. "We have to be operating on all cylinders in all three phases for 60 minutes, and unfortunately we've come up short in those areas.

"It's not just Brian, not just Jay (Cutler) when he was the quarterback; this is every position on the football team. We have to have all that operating for us to pull out victories. I'm sure in Bran's case, he's got three or four plays he'd like to have back, and I'm sure there's a lot of us that feel the same way."

Faux injury report:

The Bears did not practice Monday but, because they play Thursday night, they were required to divulge what their injury report would like if they did practice.

Eight players would not have practiced, including quarterback Jay Cutler (thumb), wide receiver Eddie Royal (toe), running back Jeremy Langford (ankle), guard Josh Sitton (ankle), nose tackle Eddie Goldman (ankle) and cornerbacks Tracy Porter (knee), Bryce Callahan (hamstring) and Deiondre' Hall (ankle).

Those who were limited included running back Ka'Deem Carey (hamstring), tight end Zach Miller (ribs), linebackers Jerrell Freeman (wrist), Sam Acho (ribs) and Leonard Floyd (calf).
