Chicago man gets 7 years for drug possession
Armeer M. Asad, 27, of the 2200 block of East 98th Street, was convicted in June of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, both felonies.
Kane County prosecutors said that Asad was a passenger in a vehicle traveling west on I-90 when it was stopped for a traffic violation on Nov. 17, 2015.
The trooper making the stop detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, prosecutors said. Upon searching the car, police found 99 grams of heroin, with a street value of about $10,000, as well as about 900 grams of marijuana a street value of about $4,000 to $8,000, and items generally associated with drug dealing, records show.
At the time of the stop, Asad was on probation for a felony drug offense in St. Louis County, Minnesota, was wanted on a warrant on heroin delivery charges out of St. Louis County and was free on bond after being charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding in Cook County, prosecutors say.
Asad will receive credit for 32 days served in Kane County jail.
