Mead Healthy Living Week focuses on positive habits and growth mindset

Positive habits and the growth mindset were a focus at Mead School during Healthy Living Week October 3-6. Students and staff participated in spirit days by wearing green, workout gear and pajamas, as well as emoji stickers they purchased during lunch periods with the proceeds going to purchase healthy food items for the District 54 Food Pantry at Mead.

On Wednesday students attended an assembly led by Kristen Kauke, LCSW, who established the St. Charles Regional Effort of The Campaign to Change Direction; the presentation centered on positive mental health, recognizing the five signs of emotional distress, and interventions to help ease stress. On Thursday students heard from D. Anthony Evans, a healthy lifestyle enthusiast and cancer survivor who shared his own story and talked about healthy choices and perseverance. Students then participated in lessons designed to promote healthy living physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.

Staff also planned other activities throughout the week to showcase mental and physical wellness; for instance, on Tuesday some special guests participated in scooter races in science to help students learn to calculate speed and its effects on the motion of objects.
