Rosemont ballpark construction to start this week

Major earthwork should begin this week on the site of a future minor league baseball stadium in Rosemont, officials said.

Construction crews also will begin installation of a retaining wall along the Tri-State Tollway, following approval of contracts for the jobs this week by the village board.

The site preparation will lead to construction of the 6,300-seat stadium and an adjoining 4-level, 1,200-space parking garage west of the tollway and north of Balmoral Avenue. Plans call for a still-to-be-named team to play there starting in May 2018.

The project is expected to cost $56 million in total, which Rosemont plans to fund by selling bonds.
