Woodland Intermediate scores best attendance in Lake County

Woodland Intermediate School in Gurnee placed first for attendance among Lake County's large elementary buildings. Woodland Intermediate topped nine other buildings in the 28th annual attendance week competition for elementary schools sponsored by the Lake County Regional Office of Education. "We are honored by the recognition. Intermediate is a warm, welcoming environment where students want to be and we want them to be there because when they are there, they are learning," Principal Mike Witkowski said. He added employees monitor attendance rigorously and if a child has five absences, it is addressed with a child's family. Woodland Intermediate has 1,271 fourth and fifth graders.
