Endorsement: Martini in Lake County Board District 5
Residents of Lake County District 5 have the good fortune of two strong choices for county board. Republican Judy Martini of Fox Lake seeks to return to the county board after leaving when her term ended in 2008 to care for her sick father. Fox Lake Village Clerk Niki Warden, a Democrat, also is vying for the job. Both are well-qualified and knowledgeable. We give the edge to Martini, 64, whose 14 years of county board experience in neighboring District 1 will help her hit the ground running. Martini, a former Fox Waterway Agency board member, now is on the Fox Lake Planning Commission and Lake County Housing Authority boards, positions she says she will give up if elected to the $41,969-a-year county board seat. She pledges to push to freeze or roll back the county tax levy and do more to promote economic development and tourism as another way to reduce the tax burden on homeowners. We endorse Martini for Lake County Board in District 5.
