Bar associations rate Cook County judicial candidates

The state's two largest bar associations have released their recommendations for Cook County judicial candidates running in the Nov. 8 general election.

The Illinois State Bar Association, which has about 30,000 members, found Eileen O'Neill Burke qualified and Bertina E. Lampkin highly qualified for the Illinois appellate court.

The Chicago Bar Association, which has about 21,000 members, found both Burke and Lampkin highly qualified.

For at-large candidates for Cook County's circuit court, the ISBA and the CBA found all candidates qualified or highly qualified.

For the 11th Cook County subcircuits, which encompass parts of Chicago and Des Plaines, the ISBA found Catherine Anne Schneider and William B. Sullivan qualified or highly qualified. For the same races, the CBA found Sullivan qualified and Schneider not recommended. The CBA listed only recommendations for the Kelly and Zwick vacancies in the 11th subcircuit.

For races in the 12th subcircuit, which includes Elk Grove, Maine, New Trier and Northfield townships, the ISBA found Marguerite Ann Quinn, James Leonard Allegretti, Carrie Hamilton, David L. Studenroth, James Edward Hanlon Jr. and Steven A. Kozicki qualified. The bar found Thomas William Flanigan and Janet Cronin Mahoney not qualified.

For the same 12th subcircuit races, the CBA found Kozicki, Hanlon, Quinn, Allegretti, Mahoney, Studenroth and Hamilton qualified and Flanigan not recommended.

For the 13th subcircuit, which comprises parts of Arlington Heights, Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Schaumburg and Streamwood, the ISBA and CBA found Ketki Shroff Steffen highly qualified or qualified and Kevin O'Donnell not qualified or not recommended.
