Endorsement: Hewitt in Lake County Board District 2

Eight-year incumbent Democrat Diane Hewitt of Waukegan gives her allegiance to her district, saying she can't remember a time when she went against her constituents' wishes. As a county board member, her proudest accomplishment is getting roadwork and drainage projects funded in her district, which stretches from nearly the state line to Grand Avenue east of the Edens Expressway. Her enthusiasm and dedication earn our backing over Darryln Coleman of Waukegan, who did not participate in our endorsement process. Hewitt says she also looks at the big picture of the county and its finances, noting she does not support the proposed Route 53 extension because of the cost, would like to find a new use for the historic former Lake County Museum building in Lakewood Forest Preserve if it's financially feasible and would like to see more bike and walking trails in northeastern Lake County.
