Barrington CROP Hunger Walk names grand marshals

Paul and Adrienne Kalmes and Rich and Kathy Larson have been named grand marshals for the 34th annual Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk, which takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday in Barrington.

The event, which features a 1-mile and a 5-mile route, raises thousands of dollars every year to combat hunger both locally and around the world.

Both couples have walked in more than 25 CROP Hunger Walks. Adrienne Kalmes became involved in the CROP Walk shortly after moving to Barrington in 1972. She and her husband are co-chairs of the FaithJustice Group, which is an international outreach mission of St. Anne Catholic Community in Barrington. The group has sponsored schools in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a clinic in Kenya, and an orphanage in Guatemala. Rich and Kathy Larson and their two sons began participating in the walk shortly after moving to Barrington in 1984.

This year the walk takes place throughout Barrington, beginning at St. Anne, 120 Ela St. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.crophungerwalk.org/barringtonil, or contact chairwoman Laura Cerretani, ldcerretani@gmail.com, or (847) 842-9629.
