Spanish-English Story Hour Offered for Two- and Three-Year-Olds

Are you looking for a parent-toddler class on Saturday mornings in November? Christine Carrillo, a Wheaton Montessori School Primary (preschool) teacher, is offering a dual-language story hour for two- and three-year-olds with their parents.

The cost is $45 for the three-class workshop and will be held from 9-10am on November 5th, 12th. The Spanish Story Hour will be held at the Wheaton Montessori School, located at 1960 N. Gary Avenue in Wheaton, just north of the Cosley Zoo.

Each class will incorporate movement, music, play, and reading time. Children will have a chance to interact with children their own ages, enjoy music and crafts, and learn about different cultures, all while enjoying stories in Spanish and English.

Suzanna Mayhugh, who attended the class last winter with her two-year-old son Henry, recommends the class as a way to interact with your toddler and get ideas for how to incorporate music and learning at home. She also mentioned that months later, her son is still surprising her with words and songs that he learned from Mrs. Carrillo. "He loved the piñata at the end of the last class. He was so excited each Saturday to go to what he called 'Spanish Class.'"

Mrs. Carrillo has been a passionate advocate of child-centered for nearly twenty years, and has worked as a classroom teacher with children aged three to fourteen for the past eighteen years. She has worked as an educator in public, private and gifted schools in both Massachusetts and Illinois, and has extensive experience living, teaching, volunteering, interpreting and traveling in México, Guatemala, El Salvador and Perú. A lover of languages and forms of expression, Mrs. Carrillo practices dance and yoga, is fluent in Spanish, and has basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and Q'eqchi' Maya. She is a contributing author to several nationally published journal articles and books on the topic of teaching.
