Upgrades finally coming for Hanover Park ball fields

After years of discussion, Hanover Park Little League's baseball fields will finally see improvements.

Hanover Park village trustees Thursday approved paying a consultant $74,200 to handle the design, bidding and construction management for improvements of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District fields near the intersection of Barrington and Irving Park roads.

The work likely will include replacing two infields, installing new fencing and dugouts on three fields, and adding a band shell and plaza between the parking lot and the fields, among a list of other upgrades.

Initial projections put a $122,900 price tag on the projects, according to village documents.

The village last year attempted to get some of the work done by encouraging parents and community members to volunteer their time to install fences, but the process proved "inefficient," according to village documents.

GeWalt Hamilton Associates will conduct the engineering stage of the improvements this fall, and put the projects out for bid in January or February, said Deputy Village Manager David Webb.

Proposed improvements also include rotating the southeast baseball field 180 degrees and the center west Little League field 90 degrees for "more productive games," Webb said.

GeWalt Hamilton will review ADA accessibility throughout the ballpark.
