Dundee Library to show Elgin documentary 'Project 2-3-1' Oct. 9

The Dundee Library is pleased to host a screening of "Project 2-3-1: Two Boxcars, Three Blocks, One City," a 2015 documentary film that tells the story of Elgin's African-American heritage.

The film will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68) in East Dundee.

"Project 2-3-1" is an award-winning 75-minute documentary film that begins with Civil War "contrabands" - 110 freed slaves who were the first African-Americans in Elgin - and continues to the present day. The film is filled with enthralling stories, amazing history and wonderful photographs that tell a rich history.

Producer Ernie Broadnax, an Elginite who was among those who grew up in "The Settlement," will start the event with a special introduction.

The library is honored to host this program as part of the "Birth of a Nation: Slavery, Resistance & Abolition" lecture series from the American Library Association.

To register, visit the library's website at www.frvpld.info, call (847) 428-3661 (press 2), or stop by the library.
