Scarecrow Day returns to Long Grove Saturday
Scarecrow Day in Long Grove promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Everyone is invited to stuff and dress their own custom scarecrow. Personalized scarecrows will then be lined up and down the cobblestone walkways and streets of historic downtown Long Grove - creating a Scarecrow City for all to enjoy.
Shop owners can decorate to the tune of their store theme, kids can create their own superhero or sports star scarecrow - whatever their hearts desire.
Scarecrow Day takes place on Towner Green from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. The Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association will provide each guest a basic wood base for their scarecrow, bales of hay, and building guidance.
Participants are asked to bring "old" clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, and accessories to dress their scarecrow. All of the leftover clothing will be donated.
The scarecrows will be on display throughout the month of October and visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites. Participants have the opportunity to win prizes from the diverse collection of family-owned businesses in downtown Long Grove.
Admission and parking are free, but organizers are requesting a $5 voluntary donation by those building scarecrows to help cover the costs of the materials and to benefit local food shelters.
