FREP Noon Network to offer tour of Fox Metro facilities Oct. 12

The Fox River Ecosystem Partnership will host its bimonthly FREP Noon Network from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Fox Metro Water Reclamation District, off Route 31, Oswego.

The program will start with a presentation in the administration building, the northernmost building as you enter the parking lot off Route 31. The group will then be lead on a tour of the facility by Randy Hummer. This program is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.

The Fox Metro Water Reclamation District (Fox Metro) was created in the late 1920s by a vote of 40,000 area residents concerned with the sanitation and health protection of their community. The treatment plant routinely removes more than 98 percent of the common pollutants in the raw wastewater it receives. Fox Metro is capable of treating up to 42 million gallons of wastewater generated by a population nearing 300,000 living in Aurora, North Aurora, Boulder Hill, Montgomery, Oswego, Sugar Grove and portions of Yorkville and Batavia.

The goals of Fox Metro are to economically treat the wastewater generated by the residents, industries, schools, businesses, churches, and other users within its boundaries and to consistently produce a final effluent that surpasses stringent federal and state water quality standards and can safely be returned to the Fox River.

The Fox River Ecosystem Partnership was established in 1996 representing the entire Fox River Watershed in Illinois, covering 1,720 square miles situated within the counties of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry and Will. Membership includes individuals, governments, organizations and businesses that meet regularly "to promote, preserve, protect and enhance the natural, cultural, economic and recreational resources of Illinois' Fox River and its watershed."
