UChicago Medicine, Ingalls Health complete merger

CHICAGO (AP) - University of Chicago Medicine has announced the completion of its merger with Ingalls Health System, which runs a community hospital in suburban Harvey.

No money changed hands in the deal announced Tuesday. Regulators have approved the alliance, along with the boards of both health systems.

The University of Chicago Medicine is an academic medical center in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood with 805 licensed beds and nearly 850 attending physicians.

Ingalls' hospital in Harvey has 473 beds and 450 physicians. The Ingalls system includes an outpatient rehab center in South Holland, a home care and hospice branch, and family health centers in Calumet City, Flossmoor and Tinley Park.

University of Chicago Medical Center becomes Ingalls' corporate parent. Ingalls remains under the leadership of President and Chief Executive Kurt E. Johnson.
