Hoffman Estates man sentenced to 9 years in Northwest suburban robbery spree

A Hoffman Estates man who prosecutors say used a pellet gun during a Northwest suburban robbery spree pleaded guilty Tuesday in Rolling Meadows.

In exchange for his guilty plea to four counts of armed robbery, Andrew Sibben, 42, was sentenced to nine years in prison, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Mike Gerber.

On Wednesday, Sibben is scheduled to appear in court in Skokie on three more armed robbery charges.

Sibben was arrested in May on charges he stole more than $2,000 in all from four suburban businesses, including an Arlington Heights gas station, a Streamwood convenience store, a Mount Prospect fast-food restaurant and a Rolling Meadows store. The robbery showed a gun but did not fire it during the robberies, which took place between May 8 and May 11, authorities said.

Morton Grove police responded to the regional alert Northwest suburban police issued after the robberies. They identified Sibben as a suspect in an October 2015 robbery in Morton Grove that prosecutors said had the same "modus operandi" as the May 2016 robberies.
