The county has spent years as well as about $35,000,000+ on this project. It has created jobs and will continue to. Traffic through that area is incredible. Once in place it will help relieve the congestion that they are seeing now. This road will bring better business routes and more businesses which mean more tax dollars. In Aurora, we have seen roads punched through and businesses thrive because of it. This can only be a good thing for Kane County.Do you agree with the Kane County State's Attorney, Kane County Public Defender and Kane County Sheriff that they require more staff? If so, where will the money come from to support that additional staff?Yes and no. I have served on the Judicial and Public Safety committee for the past 4 years. The offices of the States Attorney and Public Defender could use additional staff. The problem is money. For the past 4 years we have held the levy flat and I am committed to doing my best to keep it that way. But this seems to get harder each year because of unfunded mandates along with state statutes regarding these offices which we have to comply with. Sheriff, no. does not need more staff.Do you support a completely frozen Kane County property tax levy, or would you support a non-referendum increase of the county's property tax levy to factor in new construction?I have voted to support a flat levy and again will do my best to keep it that way. Unfortunately, at some point we might have to consider tough choices. What is your philosophy regarding the use of forest preserve district property? Are projects like the proposed cross country course for the former Settler's Hill Landfill appropriate? We have done a good job on the forest preserve. We have conscientiously put efforts into connecting the bikepaths throughout the county. As for Settler's Hill, at the present time the cross country course is the best use for the property. This use works due to the stipulation and limitations of use on a landfill. This is the best way to let the public use it when the cross country course is not in use.Do you believe Kane County's elected officials, including the board, are fairly compensated? Or is it time to explore raises for all the elected offices?I don't feel the board should get an increase currently. I did vote on increases for the chairman, circuit clerk, treasurer and auditor. My reasoning is most municipalities, villages, etc., vote on modest increases from time to time. This is easier to consider than trying to play catch up with salaries in comparables of surrounding areas. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?A passion of mine has been foreclosures and their impact on the community. I'm very proud to have worked with 16th judicial court and Judge Brawka on the Residential Foreclosure Mediation Program. I have helped to secure funds for Dangerous and Blighted structures. I will continue to do my part to be a good steward of tax dollars for District 2 and the county. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Lisa MadiganWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?How to live within your means. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I wouldn't want a do-over. I feel lifes lessons shape us into who we are. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Office machines. We learned in an office setting and could go right into a job with those skills. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?to listen
