Apply for Hanover Township's sponsor-a-family

Beginning Monday, Oct. 3, Hanover Township families facing financial hardship can apply for the annual December holiday sponsor-a-family and toy drive programs.

Applications will be accepted from 9-11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park.

Residents must be signed in by 10:30 a.m. to guarantee an appointment. Applications will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 16.

"Last year, 293 families were sponsored and more than 2,103 children received gifts from our toy drive," said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire. "We understand that providing an enjoyable experience during the holidays can be financially difficult and encourage struggling parents and guardians to apply and contact us if they have any questions on the program."

Required documents for the application process include: valid ID, utility bill dated within the last 30 days, birth certificate for children ages 15 and younger, proof of income covering the last 30 days prior to the date of the application.

Additional items may be requested to determine eligibility. Applicants will be notified by mail within 30-45 days.
