Girls swimming: Warren has winning moves in Jamboree

Warren's girls swimming and diving team kicked out the jams in the Jamboree hosted by Hersey's team at Prospect on Saturday.

The Blue Devils finished with 391 points to top the runner-up Huskies (284) along with Maine South (230.5), Mundelein (226) and Jacobs/Hampshire (222.5). Taking places six through nine were Cary-Grove (216), Prospect (150.5), Palatine (149) and Buffalo Grove (112).

Warren's only individiual winners were Courtney Barker in the 50-yard freestyle (24.32) and Alyssa Church in the 200 free (1:59.69). But the Blue Devils were a force in winning all three relays, and they got a 2-3 finish in diving from Teagon Albert and Carly Braun to go with runner-up individual finishes from Megan Wong in the 200 IM, Emily Wong in the 100 fly, Barker in the 100 free and Maia Russell in the 500 free.

Hersey claimed wins from Jenny Lutz in the 100 fly (1:00.68) and from Olivia Kusio in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.82). The Huskies also had runner-up efforts in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, and Kusio placed second in the 50 free (24.91).

Mundelein's champs included Angela Bowes in the 100 backstroke (1:00.76) and Maggie Franz in diving (388.10).

Jacobs/Hampshire got a runner-up placement from Izzy Bavaro in the 100 back (1:01.02) and also earned a third-place 400 free relay finish.

Palatine's Jane Smith won the 500 free in 5:20.46 and placed second in the 200 free (2:00.19), and teammate Ellis Nelson was third in both the 200 IM (2:18.36) and the 100 fly (1:01.68).

Maine South freshman Annika Wagner excelled, winning the 200 IM in 2:09.45 and the 100 free in 52.51 in a close race with Warren's Barker.

Cary-Grove picked up a third-place finish from Ayden Donfris in the 500 free (5:33.89).
