Star Press donating news clippings to Ball State University

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana's Star Press newspaper is donating hundreds of thousands of clippings and photographs from the last century to Ball State University so the material can be digitized and made more easily searchable by the public for free.

The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/2dwCB4t ) that the work to digitize its newspaper archive is a process that the university says will take about 15 years.

The public can already browse old editions of the paper using microfilm at local public libraries and the university. But unlike microfilm, digitizing the archives will make it easier for people to instantly search for topics and individuals the newspaper reported on. People will also be able to search the archive anywhere with an internet connection, rather than having to go to the library.
