Glenbard Hispanic Parent Leadership Academy to explore college readiness

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will present In the Driver's Seat: A Hispanic Parent Leadership Academy in Spanish with Lourdes Ferrer on Friday, Oct. 14, at Glenbard East High School.

Parental involvement is the leading indicator of student academic achievement. Empowering parents so they can play a significant role in their children's education is key in efforts to increase Hispanic students' academic achievement. Ferrer, a Hispanic academic achievement and parental involvement specialist, will explain the competencies that parents demonstrate when they "sit in the driver's seat" of their children's education. Parents will learn how to increase students' college and career readiness and tips to graduating college with the least amount of debt.

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Glenbard East, 1014 S. Main St. in Lombard.

Join us and learn about the skills necessary for today's careers. Attendees will better understand standardized test scores, the strategies to create a home environment that is conducive to academic success and how to support their children's potential. Babysitting will be provided.

Ferrer also will present a free SAT math review session to students whose parents attend the Leadership Academy. The math review session will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in Glenbard East's library.
