Driver of school bus shot as students look on

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say the driver of a bus loaded with high school students was shot in the head as the moved through the city's West Side.

A spokesman says Chicago Fire Department personnel took a 31-year-old man with a possible graze wound to Mount Sinai Hospital following the shooting Friday evening. The spokesman says the man's condition was stable.

It wasn't immediately known how many students were on the bus at the time of the shooting. Police Department spokesman Officer Michelle Tannehill said none of them were injured.

Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School director Stephen Holte says the bus was headed to the school from downtown as part of transportation the school provides for corporate work study program participants.

Holte says it isn't known where the bullet originated or if the bus was the intended target.
