Elgin man accused of videotaping woman now charged with burglary

A 43-year-old Elgin man free on bail on charges he videotaped a woman in a shower earlier this year is now charged with burglary and theft.

Elvin L. Adams, of the 300 block of Crystal Avenue, was arrested this week on felony charges of residential burglary and theft, according to Kane County court records.

Adams is accused of stealing a cellphone Sept. 3 from a residence on the 1400 block of Meyer Street in Elgin, records show.

Adams had been free on bail since a grand jury indicted him on charges he illegally videotaped a woman in the shower in May, records show.

Adams and a 41-year-old female he knew began arguing and he is accused of entering a bathroom while she was showering and pulling the curtain back while recording on his cellphone, police said. The woman grabbed a towel, but Adams cornered her in a hallway and tried to pull off the towel, police said.

Adams has previous convictions for marijuana possession, burglary, disorderly conduct, domestic battery and window peeping, record show. He is due in court Oct. 12.

If convicted, Adams faces four to 15 years in prison on the burglary charge, and up to three years on the videotaping charge. Probation is an option in both cases.
