Scotland punished after sick women's team refuses to play

NYON, Switzerland (AP) - UEFA has ordered Scotland to forfeit a women's Under-19 European Championship match for refusing to play because of a sickness bug.

The Scottish soccer federation cited "acute gastroenteritis that affected nine players" and several team staff for failing to play Serbia in a qualifying match last week. The game in Albania between two unbeaten teams was to decide the group winner.

UEFA says Scotland "is deemed to have lost the match 3-0."

Scotland can still advance to the next qualifying stage as one of the best runners-up.
