Grayslake Cemetery tour to highlight immigrants

The 19th annual Living History Tour of the Grayslake Cemetery, sponsored by the Grayslake Historical Society, will be Sunday, Oct. 2, at the cemetery near the northeast corner of Lake Street and Belvidere Road in Grayslake. Parking is adjacent. Performances are at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. This year's theme is immigration. The small Grayslake Cemetery has almost 600 known burials. Although most of the deceased were born in the United States, many immigrated from Europe. The cemetery walk will feature people from six of the 10 countries represented in this burial ground. Costumed performers will tell the reasons for migration and what the immigrant did to contribute to Grayslake's history. There is no admission fee, but donations are appreciated. For more information, call the historical society at (847) 987-5509.
