Lake Park stages 'Emperor's New Clothes'

Lake Park High School will launch its 2016-17 theater season with the children's play "The Emperor's New Clothes."

In the play, as adapted by Greg Atkins, freshman Jay Harrison plays a swindler who, with his son, portrayed by freshman Jack Hagen, visit a town whose people are afraid to stand by their own convictions.

Realizing they have found an easy mark, the swindler plots to hoodwink the vain emperor (freshman Brian Provenzano) while his son falls in love with the beautiful Mary (freshman Linda Presta). The story involves plenty of trickery, comedy and romance along the way.

Director Kathy Weber selected the show to launch the theater season with the theme "Find Your Truth: Discover. Uncover. Reveal." The show features a cast of more than 30 underclassmen and will be performed Tuesday, Oct. 4, and Thursday, Oct. 6, for local schools.

A free public performance begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle. For information, email lptheatreboxoffice@lphs.org.
