Friendship Village Celebrates Ninth Annual Silver Games

Friendship Village's Ninth Annual Silver Games were the most successful to date, drawing approximately 400 participants competing in almost 30 different events over the course of five days. The event features friendly competition for individuals ages 62 and over to encourage exercise of both the brain and the body. The Silver Games were held in cooperation with the Schaumburg Park District.

"As always, this year's games were a great example of community partnership and celebrating seniors," said Silver Games coordinator Roberta Anglin of Friendship Village. "Through friendly competition and conversation, many new bonds were formed."

The various competitions were held at Friendship Village, the Schaumburg Park District Community Recreation Center, Poplar Creek Bowl, Schaumburg Golf Club and Sports Center.

In addition to physical activities including swimming, golfing, archery, basketball and fishing, the games included competitions in Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, and more. "It's important not to forget the brain is just as important as the rest of the body. The Silver Games feature challenges for all ability, activity and interest levels. It's a great program that makes everyone feel included," said Anglin.

The 9th Annual Silver Games were open to the public. In addition to the various competitions, the Silver Games included a healthy breakfast every morning, a T-shirt, closing feast, daily raffles and live entertainment.
