Residents escape Naperville house fire

Residents of a Naperville house escaped without injury Monday when a bedroom caught fire, but their home is now uninhabitable, authorities said.

A 911 call at 10:49 a.m. alerted firefighters to the blaze at a two-story house on the 200 block of Bay Colony Drive, where all occupants had evacuated by the time crews arrived, Bureau Chief Amy Scheller said in a news release.

Firefighters attacked the flames - visible from outside the house - ventilated the structure and searched for hidden fire. They had the blaze under control within 20 minutes and extinguished within 30, Scheller said.

The department's investigation team is working to determine what sparked the fire.

Firefighters were assisted by Naperville police, the city's electric department and transportation, engineering and development department, NICOR Gas and fire agencies from Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Wheaton.
