American defender Miazga makes Vitesse Arnhem debut

American defender Matt Miazga made his debut for Vitesse Arnhem, entering in the 64th minute of Sunday's 2-1 loss at Twente Enschede in the Dutch Eredivisie.

The 21-year-old from Clifton, New Jersey, was sold from Major League Soccer and the New Jersey Red Bulls to Chelsea in January for $5 million. The 6-foot-4 center back made his Chelsea debut at Aston Villa on April 2 and also started against Stoke a week later, then was substituted at the start of the second half.

He was loaned to Vitesse on Aug. 31 for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

Miazga made his U.S. debut last Nov. 13 in a World Cup qualifier against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and also appeared in a May exhibition at Puerto Rico.
