Texas women's coach Karen Aston gets 3-year extension, raise

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas women's basketball coach Karen Aston is getting an annual raise of more than $150,000 under a three-year contract extension approved Friday by university regents.

Aston's guaranteed salary was bumped up to $770,000 entering her fifth season, and she's eligible for $220,000 in performance incentives. Her base salary is an increase of $158,187 from last season. The new contract runs through the 2019-20 season.

Aston has a four-year record of 89-46 at Texas. The Longhorns were 12-18 her first year but have won at least 22 games and reached the NCAA Tournament each of the past three seasons.

Texas went 31-5 last season and fell one game short of the Final Four with a loss to Connecticut, which won its fourth straight national title.
